What is Erosion?
Erosion is the process in which earthen materials/ surface soil are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water.
Agents of Erosion:
- Water: Flowing water in the form of run-off can wash away the top soil. River or stream water can also wash away dissolved material and carry soil particles to other places on the earth’s crust.
- Wind: Wind can also remove the surface soil. When a car runs on an untarred road on a high speed, the tyres of the car loosen the soil. Then the movement of the vehicle sets up a wind. The wind carries up the loosened soil particles from the soil into the air. Some of these soil particles in the air later settle on house roofs along the road sides. This is why house roofs at the roadsides look dusty in the dry season.
